When I created this page originally, there was neither Family Tree nor Breeding Guide for Sheep and Rams in FarmVille. Now, whenever one accesses a Sheep Pen for the purpose of breeding any Ram with any Ewe, all possible results will be shown in a moving window above the proposed pair.
The initial Sheep Pen accommodates a total of 20 Sheep but has a single breeding pen. You are given your first Ram, Brutus, in one of the Quests and then are given an Ewe named Gertrude in another Quest. Ordinary Sheep are females and can be used for Breeding, as can special Sheep from the Home Farm, such as Sneezy Sheep, Clover Sheep, Red Sheep and so on. Once placed, originally no animal could travel to another farm but now FarmVille has Special Licences that can be purchased or won through completion of the final Level 10 building option at the local port or railway terminal. These Special Licences allow items on the Farm or in storage on that Farm to be shared with the Home Farm and any other Farm for which a comparable Licence exists.
To breed, you must choose a Ram and one of your Ewes. You can pay Farm Cash for an instant result or you can use 5 Love Potions for the same result. Each Love Potion used reduces breeding time and increases the odds of success. You can breed Sheep without using any Love Potions but it takes 24 hours and your chances of success are slim. (Do not click too quickly on the options when breeding. I wasted 24 hours and my single breeding pen by doing so, as the Ewe and Brutus entered without the benefit of any Love Potions and I therefore had to wait for them to emerge the next day without having been at all inclined to mate!
Basically, the way the system works now is that the progeny of any mating will be influenced by the Ram in terms of Pattern and by the Sheep (Ewe) in terms of colour. In other words, if you have a solid Turquoise Ram and a Star Sheep (ewe with star pattern), the Stars will not be inherited by the Lamb. If, however, the Ram has the Star Pattern and the Ewe is Solid, the Lamb will be able to inherit the Star Pattern. In every case, there are different permutations, however. It is possible for a Ram with a pattern to produce a Lamb that is solid. FarmVille has introduced a 'guaranteed pattern' option that must be purchased with Farm Cash. Remember always that this will NOT guarantee a Pattern if it is the Sheep or Ewe that carries the Pattern! It only can work when the Ram has a Pattern.
Different Rams and Sheep appear in the Marketplace constantly. You can obtain a special Ram or Sheep/Ewe by completing a specific Quest or through other methods. Some of the Reward Sheep are:
Luv Ewe (redeem from Valentines)
Sneezy Sheep (redeem from Christmas Tree)
Red Sheep (prize for earlier Home Farm Quest)
Miner Sheep (redeem from Cellar)
Spaghetti Sheep (redeem from Tuscan Wedding)
Clover Sheep (redeem from Leprechaun Cottage)

You do not have to place a Lamb on the Farm where he/she was born as long as you click directly on the Gift Box when you remove the Lamb from the Sheep Pen instead of placing it on the ground. Now that Paddocks produce Foals, the same rule applies to them. Once placed on the ground, however, the Animal can be transferred to another Farm only if the Player has obtained the requisite Special Licence for that Farm.
In the case of Lighthouse Cove, the Player automatically obtains the Special Licence by completing the Cove upgrades to Level 10. If a Player does not have the will or patience to obtain over 1000 building materials, he/she can opt to purchase a Licence for 75 Farm Cash.
